XBRL US Webinar Introduces Published First Edition of the Taxonomy Development Handbook

On August 12, 2020, XBRL US posted a webinar entitled “Roadmap to Building Successful Financial Data Standards”. The webinar was presented by Scott Theis, Chair of the XBRL US Domain Steering Committee, and Campbell Pryde, President and CEO of XBRL US.

The webinar served as an introduction to the published first edition of the XBRL Taxonomy Development Handbook (TDH), a detailed guide that provides a reference for XBRL taxonomy development, implementation, and maintenance. The TDH serves as the first comprehensive source of information and guidance pertaining to XBRL taxonomydevelopment, covering topics ranging from data modeling and structure to freely available XBRL taxonomy development tools to long-term taxonomy governance. The handbook also includes templates for key XBRL documentation, including a white paper, an XBRL overview, a taxonomy guide, and guides for preparers and data consumers. The TDH was developed by the XBRL US Domain Steering Committee and has now been released in its first edition following a 90-day public review period that ended on February 21, 2020.

Highlighted topics from the online Taxonomy Development Handbook presentation include:

  • How the TDH Explains XBRL
  • An Introduction to XBRL
  • Structuring Data
  • Documenting a Taxonomy
  • Success Stories

The live seminar concluded with information regarding the Regulator Workshop Webinar Series planned for September 16th at 3:00 pm EDT. This will be the first in a series of live events that will focus on helping regulators know how they can best work with XBRL to build good quality standards programs.
