LDC #106: RSS Monitor

A little while back I wrote a few blogs on the possibilities of background threads in Legato. For this week we are going to discuss using a Legato background thread to monitor the SEC’s RSS feed of filings. The script checks the SEC’s RSS feed and if a specific CIK is found in the feed, a message box showing the filing information is opened. This script could be adapted to work with any RSS feed, but as it stands the script can help you see when your company’s filings are disseminated to the public.

N-PORT Pilot Phase 3

The third pilot phase for N-PORT filers began on October 1, 2018. From October 1 through March 31, 2019, filers will be able to submit test filings of the N-PORT forms to EDGAR. Live filings will not be permitted and will be rejected until April 1, 2019.

LDC #105: Dialog Boxes Part VI — Trackbar Control

Version Legato 1.1n (GoFiler 4.24a) introduced trackbar support. This is a Windows common control allowing for the adjustment of a visual slider. Trackbars are commonly employed to allow users to adjust things that have a range of values, such as the magnification of a document or image, the position inside a document, or the volume of the playback on an audio/video file. Trackbars are similar in many ways to scrollbar controls.

SEC Proposes Amendments to Codify Exemption to Credit Rating Agency Rule

On September 26th, SEC voted to propose new rule amendments to codify existing exemptions for credit rating agencies registered with the SEC as nationally recognized statistical rating organizations (NRSROs).

SEC Releases EDGAR 18.3

On October 1, 2018, EDGAR Release 18.3 was released by the Securities and Exchange Commission. This release contains changes to the N-CEN and N-PORT EDGAR forms as well as improvements to EDGAR XBRL validation in addition to other changes.

LDC #104: Copy All the Things - An Example of Recursion

This week I want to go over a short script that I’ve written recently in order to help automate some of the tasks I have picked up around the office. Some of these tasks involve moving around files and folders on the network. I got tired of manually copying and pasting folders, so I wrote a script to help make moving large amounts of files and folders easier. There’s plenty of ways that this script could be made more in-depth, but this is a practical example of a way to make your life a little bit easier.

Event: SEC to Host Roundtable on the Proxy Process

Members of the SEC’s staff will host a roundtable on November 15 to hear investor, issuer, and other market participant views about the proxy process and rules. This roundtable will focus on key aspects of the proxy system in the US, including proxy voting mechanics and technology, the shareholder proposal process, and the role and regulation of proxy advisory firms.

LDC #101: Page Break Template Manager, Part 3

Last week, we added a modify dialog for our page break style manager, to let us rename and delete page break styles. This got us to a point where we have what I’d consider “minimal functionality” required to have a useful script, but let’s take it a step further, and add in a re-order function. It’s very useful to be able to shuffle the order around so you can have all styles, for a single client, grouped together. You don’t have to constantly search through a list anymore. While we’re at it, we can add in functionality to disable buttons if they are not applicable to our selection. For example, if we don’t have a selection, everything should be disabled. if we have the top list item selected, the move up button should be disabled, because we obviously can’t move the top item up even higher. The opposite applies to the bottom selection.

SEC to Release EDGAR 18.3

The Securities and Exchange Commission is planning to release EDGAR 18.3 in October 2018. The EDGAR Filer Manual (Volume II) will also be updated to Version 48 with this release. These changes will take effect on October 1 if approved (for non-rule based changes; see the SEC Final Rules posted here for rule-based changes and their implementation dates).

LDC #100: Page Break Template Manager, Part 2

Last week, we discussed how to add page breaks into the page break template with a Legato script. As useful as that is, without a way to delete them or rename them, the function isn’t really complete. To do that, we’re making a page break manager this week. This will give us a new menu option, “Modify Page Break Templates”, which lets us manage our stored page breaks.

SEC Fee Rate Advisory #1 for Fiscal Year 2019

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced that in fiscal year 2019 the fees that public companies and other issuers pay to register their securities with the Commission will be set at $121.20 per million dollars.

LDC #99: Page Break Template Manager

This is a script I’ve wanted to write for a while, because it makes it significantly easier to use custom page breaks in GoFiler. For a long time, GoFiler has supported page break style templates, which let you save and customize a list of page headers and footers. Using this script, you’ll be able to add, remove, and edit entries in that template file without having to edit the HTML.
