Chapter Nine — Dialog Functions (continued)
ControlGetWindowStyle Function
Overview
The ControlGetWindowStyle function returns the underlying window style bits.
Syntax/Parameters
Syntax
dword = ControlGetWindowStyle ( int id, [boolean extended] );
Parameters
id
An int that identifies the dialog control.
extended
An optional boolean value specifying base or extended style bits.
Return Value
Returns a dword value with the style bits or zero on failure. Use the GetLastError function to retrieve a formatted error code. While unlikely, it is possible that the style bits are all zero, as such, the IsError or other function must be used to determine if an error occurred.
Remarks
Each control has style bits that determine its behavior. The base style lower 16 bits contain standard bits such as WS_GROUP or WS_TAB while the upper bits contain the information specific to the class of control. For example, CBS_DROPDOWN or CBS_SORT for a “combobox” class of control.
